Having trouble keeping your dog’s teeth clean? Using a toothbrush isn’t necessarily the only way to go about cleaning your dog’s teeth. There are other ways to keep your dog’s teeth healthy without you having to do anything. In this article, we examine the various ways you can clean your dog’s teeth without having to use a toothbrush.

#1 Bones and rawhides

One of the best ways to keep your dog’s teeth healthy is by providing him/her with a solid bone or rawhide that can be chewed on. These treats help your dog maintain its teeth on its own. When the dog bites into these treats, the stains will gradually scrape off as a result of the abrasive surface properties bones have. These days, there appears to be many different choices. For example, rawhide sticks are great teeth cleaners because they provide solid resistance. If your dog suffers from weak teeth, you may want to provide something that is slightly softer.

#2 Wet and dry food

Make sure you give your dog a good balance between wet and dry food. In some cases, canned wet food is superior in terms of the nutritional value it provides for dogs. For example, canned food contains a higher percentage of meat protein than dry food. However, dry food serves an additional purpose of keeping your dog’s teeth strong and healthy so it is important that you get the right mix between the two. In some cases, dogs will stop eating dry food once you have provided them with wet food so you don’t want to serve the dogs wet food all the time or else it will become too greedy.

#3 Chew toys

If you don’t want to give your dogs too many treats because it will then mess up their discipline, consider getting them a chew toy they can play around with instead. There are plenty of chew toys in the market that comes in all shapes and sizes. For example, Kong provides fun chew toys that come in the shape of plastic bones and braided ropes. Some chew toys allow you to insert a treat inside so this can provide entertainment for dogs that are bored at home.

Although toothbrushes may help in reducing the amount of tartar that builds up on your dog’s teeth, it isn’t something that is absolutely necessarily. The most important thing is to make sure your dog is on a healthy diet and he/she is provided with all the toys that is needed for self-dental maintenance.
