Is Water Flossing Effective?
If you have never had a water flossing device in the past, you really don’t know what you are missing out on. I have had a Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser for the past few months and it has made such a difference to my teeth and gum health. A lot of people brush their teeth, but then they forget to floss to remove all those bits of food, which if left there, begin to rot. Which in turn causes decay, smelly breath, receding gums, bleeding gums and more. Although toothbrushes do a good job of getting rid of the food particles from the teeth surface, they aren’t very effective when it comes to digging out the food residue that gets stuck in between teeth and in cavities.
In this article, I am going to share my experiences of using the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser which is one of the top rated water flossers. If you check on Amazon, they have five different models of Waterpik products:
- Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
- the Waterpik for Kids
- the Waterpik Classic
- the Waterpik Cordless Plus
- the Waterpik Cordless.
As you can probably tell, each model has its own pros and cons. In this article, I will explain my experiences of using the Ultra model.
First, here is a brief description on what to expect with Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser.
A Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser package comes with six different tips. Each tip provides a different purpose. For example, the toothbrush tip allows you to brush and floss your teeth at the same time. The Pik Pocket tip allows you to clean the areas that are deep within your gums.
If you travel often then you probably want to get yourself a Waterpik Ultra Flosser Cordless model, not a counter-top one like the Ultra Water Flosser. There are ten different pressure settings for water flossing that come with this model. It’s fun to play around with it and find out which pressure setting is best for your teeth. In the end, you’ll probably end up using only one or two of them.
So what are the pros and cons of using this cordless Waterpik for water flossing? Let’s first examine the advantages. When you have a look at the product description, it states a whole lot of numbers.
For example, the Waterpik Ultra Flosser can help you remove up to 99.9% of plaque on your teeth. It can also improve your gum health by up to 50%. Although these numbers don’t sound so believable, I guarantee that your mouth will feel so much fresher after you use a water pick for water flossing.
When I used mine for the first time, I was shocked that there were still so many food particles that were coming out from between my teeth. If these food particles weren’t cleared out, they could have easily increased the production of plaque and teeth cavities as well my breath would have been very unpleasant!
As someone who has also used a cordless version, it’s great that I don’t have to replace the battery all the time. The battery life of cordless water picks usually lasts for around two or three weeks. The reservoir tank is also big enough so that you don’t have to keep pouring water into it after each use.
So what concerns did I have when I started to use the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser?
First, the pressure of the water did hurt my gums by a bit. If you are a first-time user, I highly recommend that you start from the lowest setting and work your way up. If you have sensitive teeth then you probably want to get the green light from a dentist first before you start using this product.
One other concern I had was the size. If you have a small bathroom then this water pick can take up a lot of the sink space. That said, this tool will become so essential to your dental hygiene and wellbeing that it wouldn’t be any sort of bother. If you haven’t bought a water pick yet, I highly recommend you check out the Amazon deals. For me,this is the best water flosser. They have some great discounts for the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser.
